What do folk songs sound like 60 years after Luciano Berio’s wonderful work? Musicatreize has commissioned Luca Antignani to compose a piece to mark the 100th anniversary of the master’s birth – Antignani’s answer is identical to the Folk Songs, for the twelve voices of Musicatreize and the instrumentalists of unitedberlin. However, he and Roland Hayrabedian make use of the originality of Musicatreize and have the songs from Berio’s collection performed by one of the soloists from Musicatreize; in Ark, these voices are brought together again in different formations, from solo to the full size of the ensemble. The individuality and uniqueness of Musicatreize thus come into their own.
