Die Stadt ohne Juden (1924) - silent film by Hans Karl Breslauer with new film music (2017) by Olga Neuwirth
for amplified ensemble and feed

This classic of silent film is based on the novel of the same name (subtitled: A Novel of the Day After Tomorrow) by Hugo Bettauer, published in 1922, in which he provides a depressingly visionary description of the terrible events in the years from 1939 to 1945; Bettauer was murdered by a Nazi a few weeks after the film was released. The film material was considered lost for decades and was only rediscovered in incomplete condition at the beginning of the 1990s. Elaborate restoration work returned the result to the public in 2015 in magnificent condition.
